PUBLIC SAFETY
The term “public safety” is really not appropriate in Orange County today; the public is not safe. Our high crime areas have expanded beyond the inner city to include the entire county. The solution virtually every politician will provide is more money to public safety. Spending in public safety has more than doubled in the past decade, and crime in Orlando is up 396%.
Finding solutions to our public safety problems is not difficult if we look past the current methods. We need to bring public safety into the 21st century if we are going to keep our public safe. To do that, we need to prioritize police resources so instead of writing speeding tickets for Moms in mini-vans, officers are out keeping the public safe.
One way to do that is the implementation of road rangers. Similar to the ones found on the Florida turnpike, these road rangers would be spread across Orange County to respond to car accidents. They will clear accidents quicker making for safer streets. Response times will decrease, public safety will increase, and costs will decrease.
