GOVERNMENT SALARIES
In my six month study of the 14 governments within Orange County, I found that government workers in Orlando make exactly double the annual wage of the taxpayers that support them. I believe this is unfair and unsustainable. The public was outraged when their tolls were increased and learned the director of the Expressway Authority makes $246,000 a year plus benefits.
Our Orange County Taxpayer Budget Review Board report calls for adjustments to government salaries. Here is my plan:
• Salaries under $70,000 no adjustment.
• Salaries from $70,000 to $99,000 pay freeze until the media wage in Orange County equals $45,000.
• Salaries above $100,000 implement a 10% pay cut.
The average taxpayer makes $38,000 a year in Orange County. Why should the public “servants” make double?
Currently, Orange County Mayor Richard Crotty makes $143,717. My first step as Orange County Mayor will be to reduce my own salary. I further pledge to give another 10% of what remains to charity.
Government exists to serve the people. Many taxpayers today believe it is the other way around. I will work diligently so taxpayers do not earn less than their civil servants.
